About the workAn almost cinematic scene, full of tension: in this enigmatic depiction, interior and exterior space seem to merge together. A situation arises before the viewers’ eyes, stoking their expectations. Is there a threat from outside, or is it just an ordinary evening? Karin Kneffel’s painting leaves this fascinatingly unclear while playing with the contrast between banality and mystery. In the 1980s, the painter studied under Gerhard Richter at the Düsseldorf Art Academy.
