About the workMax Klinger’s etching depicting a murder is part of his cycle “Tent”. In this series, the German artist portrays the adventures of a young woman in fantastical scenes. Between sensuality and violence, a nightmarish and at times disturbing visual world unfolds. Rather than a clear storyline, there is only narrative openness. The elusive cycle already provoked mixed reactions during Klinger’s lifetime: it was artistically admired but often criticized for its content due to a lack of understanding. To this day, "Tent” receives little attention within Klinger’s oeuvre.
