About the workThe original French title L'Amazone has a double meaning, as it describes both the female riding attire depicted here and the female warriors of Greek mythology. Marie Laurencin depicted female riders on several occasions. This lithograph was probably created in Düsseldorf, where she lived between 1918 and 1921 with her then husband, the painter Otto von Wätjen. The Düsseldorf art dealer Alfred Flechtheim published this print.
