About the workThe original form of the scissor chair, with X-shaped curved legs but no arm or back rests, already existed in ancient times. From the Middle Ages, this type of seat was particularly widespread in Europe and the Middle East. As it was considered a symbol of power, it was reserved for higher-ranking church dignitaries and political officials. This furniture was often adorned with ornamentation, carvings or turned knobs at the ends of the armrests, as in this example, as well as decorative seat cushions.
