About the workA gold rim and mechanically etched decoration over a pearlescent sheen: this sounds like your great-grandmother’s finest display cabinet. Patrik Illo and Aleksandra Stencel created an evocative, retro design series for the Rona glass factory in Slovakia, in which long-dead decorative techniques were given new life and a modern reinterpretation. Even the whimsical depictions only seem old-fashioned at first glance. Rona is one of the largest glass factories in Europe. Illo is the head designer there and is also a professor at the art academy in Bratislava. The Polish product designer Aleksandra Stencel has been working for Rona since 2013.
