About the workThe shape of the vase is reminiscent of the headgear worn by the Doges, the heads of state of Venice until 1797. As with other Salviati products, this vase plays with the distribution of transparent and translucent areas. The vase is signed with the name of the designer Luciano Gaspari, who worked exclusively for Salviati from 1950 onwards. However, vases from this series are usually attributed to the Milanese architect and designer Sergio Asti. In 1962, the Venini glassworks also presented a similar design by the American Thomas Stearns at the 31st Venice Biennale.
