on display, room G15 About the workA gnat in a museum? You only realise that it is a replica on closer inspection. Glass can be stretched very thinly in front of the “lamp”, the flame of a gas burner. However, it takes great mastery to reproduce the insect legs so naturally. Vittorio Costantini is an outstanding artist in this field. From the age of eleven, he learnt to make glass in Murano and practiced flameworking on the side. In 1973, he set up his own workshop in Venice and has worked exclusively in this technique ever since.
