About the workBlowing a perfect egg shape freehand is still one of the greatest challenges in the art of glassmaking today. The vase is modelled on a depiction of the Annunciation painted by Paolo Veronese around 1580 for the church of the Madonna dell’Orto. The church is located in Venice on the island of Murano and was well known to glass artists for centuries. The artist Vittorio Zecchin designed six versions of the vase around 1921 for the newly founded glassworks V.S.M. Cappellin Venini & C.. It remains the trademark for Venini glass to this day.
