About the workThe painter Karin Götz, known as Rissa, makes the familiar seem strange. Her motifs originate from everyday life and at the same time point beyond it. The break with expectations characterises every picture: objects lose their usual function and take on a new, often enigmatic meaning. In combination with depictions of people or animals, unusual scenes are created. Rissa studied at the Düsseldorf Art Academy from 1959 to 1965 under K. O. Götz, whom she later married. The collector couple Ingrid and Willi Kemp were among their oldest friends.
