About the workIn the post-war period, Rupprecht Geiger became interested in colour, especially the effects of the colour red. His works elicit an immediate reaction; the moods created by the colours are almost overwhelming. In the 1960s, Geiger began using pigments that made the colours glow brightly. In the 20-part series “Zurückgehn Weitergehn Fortgehn” (Go back Go on Go away) from 1966, he placed squares filled with colour gradients on bright backgrounds. In 1976, the artist held a “Red Festival” to bid farewell to his students and colleagues at the Düsseldorf Art Academy, where he had taught since 1965.
