About the workGünter Fruhtrunk, who taught at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich from 1967 until his death, translated important visual concepts from painting to screen printing and thereby made them accessible to a wider audience. As a technique that suppresses traces of the artist’s hand, screen printing suited Fruhtrunk, who strove for “neutral” beauty. The theme of these compositions is sight. Rhythmically arranged stripes join together to form abstract chords of colour. They confuse the viewer’s eye as it tries in vain to decipher the interaction between the planes of depth and the background.
