Werke aus der Sammlung Kemp About the workThis print documents a project realised in Kassel's Auepark by the artist couple Christo and Jeanne-Claude, who were living in New York at the time. In 1968, on the occasion of the major exhibition documenta 4, they let an approximately 85-metre-long column of air-filled plastic foil ascend into the sky. Its shape resulted from the interplay of air pressure, gravity, buoyancy, weather and material properties. The artwork combined technology and nature by reacting to its surroundings while also forming the perception of the location. In the process, air itself became an artistic medium.
