About the workAt the Bauhaus, the multi-talented artist Marianne Brandt also designed lighting fixtures. One of the models she developed was this simple “Kandem” bedside lamp, which went into serial production in 1928. One year later, Brandt left the Bauhaus. She was head of the design department of the metal goods factory Ruppelwerk GmbH in Gotha until 1932. Brandt later returned to her hometown of Chemnitz, where she became a member of the Reich Chamber of Culture in 1939, but did not join the Nazi Party. After the war, she worked as a lecturer at the Academy of Fine Arts in Dresden.
