About the work
Under the slogan "New German Design", provocative furniture was developed in the 1980s with the aim of questioning and reorienting established design patterns. This lamp was given the allusive title "Argus" and refers to the phrase "to observe with Argus eyes", meaning not letting someone or something out of one's sight. It was realised by Düsseldorf designer Stephan Bumm. With a light bulb as a pupil, this lamp and sculpture was created in the style of Pop Art, whose strategies include the oversized depiction of body parts.
