About the workThe painter Wilhelm Trübner, who was then based in Munich, spent the summer of 1874 with his Austrian colleague Carl Schuch. Inspired by him, Trübner turned to landscape painting. Together, they traveled from Rügen to the Herreninsel in the Chiemsee. There, Trübner was especially drawn to the surroundings of the monastery building used as a palace. He captured it from various viewpoints but never placed it in the foreground. Instead, he focused on the park grounds and the visual rhythm of the meadow, trees, and shrubs.
