About the workA large, mysteriously shimmering calyx-shaped goblet: when such glasses by the entrepreneur and artist Louis Comfort Tiffany were exhibited in Paris in 1895, nobody in Europe had ever heard of glass art from the USA. In fact, Tiffany had only begun producing iridescent glass the year before, using a technique developed in Hungary to mimic the opalescent corrosion of old glass. Tiffany and subsequently the Lötz company in Bohemia successfully used it to create innovative effects on their glassware.
