About the workThe hexagon forms the basis of Winfred Gaul’s series Sex-a-gon. Within this consistent basic shape, the painter connected various intersection points of the polygon with one another. He thus developed varying compositions of form and colour from picture to picture. In this way, a single geometric figure gave rise to a multitude of independent variations. In this ongoing process, the boundaries of the image surface serve as both a starting point and a blueprint for the composition.
