About the workTwo roses are raised in celebration like champagne flutes. Or are flowers being exchanged instead of rings at this wedding ceremony? As vibrant as their colours are, these blooms are nevertheless ephemeral. The simultaneity of life and mortality is also reflected in the contrast between the sombre background and the colours that stand out against it. Rissa, who studied and taught at the Düsseldorf Art Academy, painted the picture in 1966 as a wedding gift for her friends Ingrid and Willi Kemp, whose extensive art collection is now housed in the Kunstpalast.
