Cloud Grid, 1960
Synthetic resin, pigment on canvas, frame
(H x W x D)176 × 86 × 2 cm
About the workAs part of the "Dynamic Structures" series, this work by Heinz Mack illustrates his thoughts on the subject of vibration – a state that the ZERO movement’s co-founder described as a constant, directionless motion full of energy. He realised this idea artistically by using a squeegee to form two layers of liquid synthetic resin into a grid of parallel lines. The resulting fine waves and lattice structures are intended to stand out like oscillating when exposed to light – comparable to the constant flow of air.
