About the workThe bright paints shine vibrantly on the black background. Despite their thin and uneven application, they develop a special intensity due to the strong contrast. In the 1960s and 1970s, Düsseldorf artist Winfred Gaul explored the fundamentals of painting. Colour as a material was always at the forefront of his work. He investigated ist texture, rhythm, spatiality and symbolism.
