About the workOnly the head of this originally life-size figure has survived. It depicts the characteristic features of Buddha. The elongated earlobes and undulating joined eyebrows are regarded as signs of a contented person. The symbol of a flame, which indicated enlightenment and would have stood on top of the skull's bulge, is no longer present. The curved hairline and eyebrows rising from the bridge of the nose are features found in the style of Ayutthaya, situated in what is now central Thailand. This style is named after the former kingdom that existed from the thirteenth to the eighteenth century.
