About the workAround 1979, the Czech glass artist Ivo Rozsypal produced a series of regular cylinders made up of fused layers of glass rods. He was inspired by waterways and music when creating them; the vibrating tones of a chord can be imagined in this work. Rozsypal had worked in glass factories in Nový Bor (Haida) in northern Bohemia, before beginning his career as a freelance artist in the 1970s. Glass has been valued as an artistic medium in Czechoslovakia. As a result of the international recognition that accompanied the US studio glass movement from 1962 onwards, its importance has only continued to grow until this day.
