About the workThe Düsseldorf artist Konrad Klapheck achieved international fame with his close-up paintings of anthropomorphised typewriters. The style and format of this image is reminiscent of a portrait of a leader. The title “The Boss” also alludes to this. Despite its impressive appearance, closer examination of the typewriter reveals that it is not functional. This is intended as a critique of the societal power structures of the 1960s, which had still not come to terms with the National Socialist era.
