About the workGently undulating lines and dots stretch across the canvas in a flowing movement reminiscent of the play of waves and currents. Varying in colour and intensity, they produce a meditative effect. Joanne Nalingu Currie prefers to use linear motifs in her paintings. In the 1960s, the artist was raised as a member of the Yumba, a small Aboriginal community on the banks of the Maranoa River in Queensland, Australia. In her works, the river often serves as a symbol of water as the source of all life.
