About the workFlat planes in a variety of colours and shapes are connected by lines and dots. Shadows painted in layers create the impression of a collage. Upon closer inspection, human forms can be glimpsed in the fragments. This work was realised in 1935, two years after Willi Baumeister lost his position as a professor at the Städelschule in Frankfurt due to National Socialist cultural policies. After the Second World War, the artist was able to successfully resume his earlier career.
