About the workA landscape of vibrant colors stretches across the canvas. The works of the painter Alexej von Jawlensky are characterized by a rejection of lifelike depictions in favour of a two-dimensional colourfulness applied with coarse brushstrokes. The Russian-German artist spent the summers from 1908 to 1910 in Murnau with artist friends, who engaged in lively exchange on matters of art. It was from this group that the artist community "Der Blaue Reiter" was founded in 1911.
