About the workIn 1963, Konrad Lueg organised the first Pop Art exhibition in Düsseldorf with Manfred Kuttner, Sigmar Polke and Gerhard Richter. It was a milestone in Germany for this art movement inspired by everyday images. Lueg’s portrait of his uncle Hans-Georg in a suit, who almost fades into the wallpaper and curtains behind him, wittily alludes to the solid middle-class ideals of the time. In 1967, Lueg founded Konrad Fischer Galerie, which was located in the same building as the artists’ bar "Creamcheese". He retired as an artist soon afterwards.
