About the workA storm is brewing in the sky, dark clouds are looming. The horizon glows red. Erich Heckel’s rapid brushstrokes continue in the foreground of the image. Trees and bushes painted in lively strokes rise up in front of houses, whose two-dimensional structures form a clear contrast to the landscape in motion. In 1910 Heckel and his colleagues from the Brücke artists’ group were increasingly drawn out of the city and into nature. The countryside became one of their main pictorial themes.
