About the workImi Knoebel unites colour, form and a spatial dimension to create balanced structures. The artist, who is based in Düsseldorf and trained at the art academy there, has also used aluminium as the support for his paintings since the 1990s. This industrially manufactured material enables him to explore the light effects of different colours. Knoebel combines and layers the individual colour field objects to produce expansive reliefs. As with this work, his titles often add a humorous dimension to his abstract compositions.
