About the workThe neck of this bottle is divided into two tubes, although they are barely visible. Evidence of the term “Kuttrolf” dates back to the fourteenth century, but it probably did not always refer to bottles with multiple tubes. According to a Hessian glassmaker’s ordinance from 1406, a master with one servant was not allowed to make more than 200 “kutterolf” per day. This is indicative of a simple mass-produced article, probably a narrow-necked vessel. The bottle was reportedly found in a brick cesspit in Mainz.
