From 1922 to 1925, Dell was head of the metal workshop at the Bauhaus in Weimar. In 1926, he took over the management of the metal department at the Städelschule in Frankfurt. As part of the "New Frankfurt" urban planning project, he developed table lamps with a globally patented swivel joint. Alongside other Dell lamps, the "K lamp" is considered an outstanding design piece of this period and had a significant influence on the German lighting industry in the period after the Second World War.
