About the workThe story of this work of art continued even after it was damaged. The vase was initially a gift from one artist to another: in 1900, the American glass manufacturer Louis Comfort Tiffany gave it to the French glass artist François Décorchemont. During one of the world wars, Décorchemont hid the vessel at his home in Normandy, but damaged it when he was digging it back up. The artist and collector Barlach Heuer acquired this fragment and gave it to the art historian Helga Hilschenz. Heuer and Hilschenz had both collaborated with the Kunstpalast's glass collection for many years.
