About the work
The "hyacinth" jug by the Alsatian artist Jacques Gruber was created during the time he worked for the Daum glassworks in Nancy. The design combines the form of the vessel with a plant motif: the curved handle recalls a climbing stem, while the elegantly elongated spout echoes this line. The applied ornamentation of hyacinth blossoms and leaves encircles the entire form, making the vessel appear like an artistic plant. Gruber, who had studied art in Paris and Nancy, later devoted himself to stained glass and created, above all, monumental leaded-glass windows
