About the workAt the end of 1925, Wilhelm Kreis commissioned the painter Walter Ophey and ten other artists to design the planetarium for the "GeSoLei" exhibition. By January 1926, Ophey had already submitted several designs for a mural, including a nature scene with reeds, a depiction of a work break and one of a sower, which was ultimately selected. The eleven paintings feature recurring motifs that deal with different cycles of time, such as the sequence of seasons in "The Sower" or work and rest in "Break". However, the guiding principle of the "GeSoLei" exhibition, which focused on health, public hygiene and sport, is only indirectly featured in the designs by Ophey and the other artists, namely as an expression of an orderly and moderate life.
Ophey’s mural was destroyed during the Second World War and was not reconstructed.
