on display, room 007 About the workDressed in regal attire with a winged crown, Buddha stands on a four-tiered lotus base. He wards off all evil with the “gesture of protection”. Rattanakosin – now the historical centre of Bangkok – became the capital of the Kingdom of Siam in 1782. The new royal seat was accompanied by a change in the way that Buddha was portrayed. As demonstrated by this figure, the sculptures took on the form of a royal ruler with magnificent gold settings. The artistic style of the Rattanakosin period was widespread in Thailand until the end of the absolutist monarchy in 1932.
