on display, room 010.2 About the workArthur Wansleben was a Düsseldorf landscape artist who was highly regarded by art critics as a painter of moods. He specialised in depicting different times of day and year as well as weather conditions. His choice of motif – a Jewish cemetery in the snow – could also be related to the fact that winter is often associated with the end of life in art and literature. Unlike Christian graves, Jewish graves are laid out for eternity and are not levelled at a certain point.
