The Baltic German painter Eugène Dücker, on the other hand, was interested in quiet, inconspicuous seascapes. He chose the play of light on stones and water as his motif. This aligned the Russian-trained artist with contemporary French painting. When this work was completed, this type of landscape painting was new for Düsseldorf, where Dücker taught for over 40 years. The low horizon in his works became his trademark, which is why it was also known as the “Dücker line”.
