About the workThis cosmetic bottle was a luxury, but nowhere near as valuable as its late Bronze Age predecessors, some 1000 years older, which would have still been reserved for the king and his circle. They had been in widespread use since the sixth century BC. The bottles were no longer made in Egypt, but in Rhodes and the eastern regions of the Mediterranean instead. “Amphoriskos” is the Greek name for a miniature amphora: a bulbous vessel with handles and a pointed base.
