About the workThe “handkerchief”, “fazzoletto” in Italian, is Venini Glassworks’ most successful model. The folds are surprisingly easy to achieve: A large, hot glass bubble is turned so quickly on the iron that it expands into the shape of a plate due to centrifugal force. If the “plate” is then held downwards, the edge collapses in folds due to the sheer force of gravity. Because of the coincidence involved, there are no two identical vessels. The design is in keeping with the playful character that graphic designer and illustrator Fulvio Bianconi introduced to Venini in 1946.
