About the workIf you hold a fine cloth in your hand, it involuntarily wrinkles. The vase recreates something of this effect. “Zanfirico” is the Venetian term for coloured glass threads in spiral patterns. It imitates bobbin lace, a textile manufacturing technique that has a long tradition on the neighbouring island of Burano. The fabric character is further emphasised by indentations and folds. The design suggests that thin glass can behave as unpredictably as a piece of fabric when hot.
