About the workThe 1870s saw a revival of Venetian glass art. Older masterpieces served as a model here, especially Roman glassware from the first centuries AD, and those from Venice’s heyday in the 15th to 17th centuries. The success was due to the lawyer Antonio Salviati from Vicenza, who founded a mosaic workshop in Venice in 1859. Many of the renowned glassworks in Murano can be traced back directly to this and later Salviati’s companies, or gained renown through commissions and collaborations.
