About the workAs in Japanese art and probably inspired by it, Alfredo Barbini conceives of the vase as a free sculpture. He uses his own techniques, which have remained secret to this day, such as a special form of “incalmo”, the fusion of two vessels. In this way, he creates an insertion that breaks through a resting, circular outline and lends the vase a lively tension. Barbini’s special talent was discovered as early as 1927, which he utilised as a master glassmaker for almost 80 years until shortly before his death. By 1950, he had set up his own glassworks in Murano.
