About the workThe smoky colouring, the clear outline and the sparse decoration are characteristics that the artist Vittorio Zecchin had introduced in Murano from 1921. In times of fast-moving fashion, this was no longer current around 1930, but had become so popular that glassworks and customers referred to it time and again. The Pauly trading company had merged with the Venice and Murano Glass Company of entrepreneur Antonio Salviati in 1919 and acted as a publisher for glass products from Murano: it commissioned works based on its own designs from the glassworks.
