Tall flattened oval vase, 1930s
Glass with a green tinge, blown
(H x Ø)45,4 x 17,6 cm
Place of originMurano
About the workThe vase is a reaction to the success of the V.S.M. Cappellin, Venini & C. glassworks. With the designs of the artist Vittorio Zecchin, the glassworks had been launching “naked” glasses with clear outlines on the market since 1921, which were free of all the decoration that was otherwise customary in Murano. Zecchin’s greatest success was an egg-shaped vase modelled on a painting by Paolo Veronese from around 1580, which remains his trademark to this day. A balanced egg shape is extremely difficult to blow. Here, a new, elongated and flattened shape has been created.
