About the workWith its colours, this vase makes reference to the Italian flag. However, similar to a table banner, the colours are not lined up next to each other, but on top of each other. Even with the smoke-tinted glass in the centre, it is not a direct copy of the national flag, the centre of which is white. The Venini glassworks overcame two major challenges here: The production of coloured glass that closely matches the green and red of the national colours and, secondly, the technique of “incalmo”, in which the sections are already fully formed and fused together with a precise fit.
