About the workArchimede Seguso’s „a merletto“ vases brought him sudden fame at the 1952 Venice Biennale. His contemporary take on the Venetian tradition of threaded glass helped him to stand out in an artistic environment characterised by a new departure at the time. “Merletto” refers to crocheted or bobbin lace, artfully openworked patterns made from textile threads. Realising such mesh fabrics with evenly thick glass threads required extraordinary technical mastery.
