About the workThread glass is a typical technique of Venetian glass art and yet fell into oblivion in the 18th century. The term “zanfirico” is a reference to the Venetian art dealer Antonio Sanquirico, who encouraged the imitation of such glass from Roman antiquity around the middle of the 19th century and thus contributed to its rediscovery. Subsequently, the decoration was often exaggerated. In the 1950s, the Venini glassworks succeeded in giving thread glass a restrained, contemporary expression.
