About the workIn this vase, a milk white glass is coated in yellow on the inside and outside—“incamiciato” in Italian. This makes the colour appear particularly strong and is reminiscent of the yellow of Chinese porcelain glazes. The Venetian architect and designer Carlo Scarpa suggested this technique back in 1929 for the MVM Cappellin glassworks, which was taken over by glassworks operator Paolo Venini the following year. In 1940, Scarpa created a series for Venini based on Chinese models. The present vase is probably not directly part of this series, but may have been created subsequently as a company design.
