About the workYou almost want to hold your breath so as not to frighten this beautiful peacock. The lifelike impression comes from the bird’s confidently captured stance and precisely painted plumage. Originally from India, the peacock has been native to Europe for centuries. It is quite possible that the Dutch portrait painter Nicolas Juvenel, who worked in Nuremberg, kept this study in his workshop to convince potential patrons of his abilities.
