About the workThis piece by the Italian painter Carlo Maratti shows a study for a painting depicting the three Magi. Maratti worked with male models and studied their poses in his sketches. Drawing from life is an approach shaped by academic training. As president of the Accademia di San Luca, the association of artists in Rome, Maratti not only applied this method in his own practice but also passed it on to his students.
